Beauty Haul #4, the Autumn Edit - September

First autumnal haul, how did I manage to avoid buying purples and burgundy reds? Oh yes, it's because I have a thing about burnt brick oranges, tan browns, pistachio greens and cumin yellows. Plus I feel ginger hair (which I have to renew the colour some point soon) don't really match with vampy makeup, so I stuck to what I know and love best. You guessed that already, didn't you?

Everyday life looks better with makeup on but how about a really bad hair day? I used to wake up every morning terrified by the thought of untamed, greasy tresses. I had to wash my hair day by day to keep them looking fresh and voluminous. And then one really crappy day my hairdryer just died on me. Imagine the horror on my face.

Air drying my hair was not an option, not in this country anyway. Up in a bun they ended up and out of the house I went, looking for a new one I could get my hands on the same day. After a few failed attempts I walked into Boots and there it was, waiting for me, eager to put my life back in order. The Babyliss Designer Collection Hair Dryer Gift Set. 2100W ionic with frizz control technology, 3 heat and 2 speed settings plus a cool shot button, a croc leather bag, makeup brushes, a compact mirror, hair brush and hair clips. In rose gold details. And although I can be a sucker for packaging (like most women) I didn't end up buying because of that. I ended up buying because half price! The set was on offer and it was impossible to resist, especially when most hairdryers I was eyeing cost pretty much the same without all the extras.

Make up wasn't a priority this month, especially after going through my drawers and realising I have plenty yet to use. Five purchases, three of them a necessity, one an impulse buy and one a treat to myself from the duty free counters on my way back from holidays.

  • L'Oreal Lumi Magique concealer in Light: I love my L'Oreal True Match concealer and would have bought it again if my shade wasn't sold out, so instead I picked this up hoping for a similar formula. Not exactly what I was expecting as it's more brightening and less thick, but it does the job alright.

  • Eylure Firm Brow Pencil in Mid Brown: I know I'm not the only one struggling to find the perfect brow matching colour product, especially when it's easier to find warm shades than cool ones. A friend suggested this pencil as a friend of hers swears by it, so it ended up in my shopping basket. So far it's the closest match to my natural ashy dark blonde brow colour, so I'm pretty pleased. It applies smoothly and has a very friendly price tag, proper win-win situation!

  • Chanel Perfection Lumiére in shade "Beige 10": I believe in the power of duty free counters. They call you from afar and the reduced prices make everything much more appealing than normal. When I started browsing the Chanel counter I couldn't stop myself, I had to have something. What I needed the most, with the new job starting and all, was a proper long lasting foundation that would help make my skin look flawless. Although I was weighing more towards Vitalumiére Aqua, in the end I opted for this one. It's light, it's blendable and it definitely lasts long. And yes, it's Chanel so I like it a tad more than my other foundations!

  • L'Oreal False Lash Flutter Midnight Blacks Mascara: Two reasons why this mascara got chosen over so many others. One, I found over the years that L'Oreal mascara formulas are less aggressive to my eyes after many hours of wear. Two, I couldn't understand the deal with the brush (and I needed a new mascara ASAP) so I had to give it a try. Turns out the brush is one of the best I've ever used, if not THE best. First coat combs and coats my lashes, then second adds the volume and drama. It looks like I'm wearing falsies without having to actually wear them. Perfect, just perfect!

  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in "Don't pink of it": Do I really need to explain this purchase? As if you don't already know I want to collect all colours! Still on the lookout for "Nude-ist" and "Grand Cru", I have to have them I tell you! I loved how this one is almost the colour of my lips only slightly pinker, I can wear it everyday and no one would even know the difference!

I think October will be a thrifty month by looking at my beauty collection right now, but then again I may get to stumble on something irresistible, who knows?

Until next time,

Dora
